We recently read the new <a href=\"https:\/\/reports.weforum.org\/docs\/WEF_Future_Proofing_the_Longevity_Economy_2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Economic Forum white paper on<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/reports.weforum.org\/docs\/WEF_Future_Proofing_the_Longevity_Economy_2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Future-Proofing the Longevity Economy<\/em><\/a>, and it affirmed everything we\u2019ve been observing and championing in the past 5 years through our work with individuals and organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember10481\"><strong>The idea that age 65 marks the finish line is outdated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember10482\">The truth is the longevity revolution is here, and we\u2019re all living it. The question now is: how do we future-proof our working lives in a world where we might have 20, even 30, vibrant years beyond what used to be considered \u201cretirement age\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ember10484\">WAKE-UP: The New Shape of Work<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember10485\">Forget the old life model of \u201c<em>work-school-retire-expire.<\/em>\u201d Today, we live in loops\u2014learning, contributing, resting, reinventing. We like to think of it as &nbsp;\u201c<em>work-school-rewire-thrive<\/em><strong>&#8220;<\/strong> (and, yes, of course, eventually\u2026expire).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By 2050, one in six people globally will be over 65, and the 50+ demographic already controls over 50% of global consumer spending.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember10487\">The WEF points out that economies, workplaces, and individuals must all adapt. This includes investing in upskilling and career mobility later in life, combating ageism in hiring and firing, and creating flexible roles that optimize the incredible experience of older professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.licdn.com\/dms\/image\/v2\/D4E12AQGCyAkgfATw5g\/article-inline_image-shrink_1000_1488\/B4EZZ2DDH5HEAQ-\/0\/1745737233408?e=1770249600&amp;v=beta&amp;t=SACrT6HkonWCdy1HapV2HBIcwYJRZ0i8K47Lg50USaM\" alt=\"Article content\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">WEF: Future Proofing the Longevity Economy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ember10490\">SHAKE-UP: Time to Rethink \u201cRetirement\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember10491\">So many people we speak with and work with don\u2019t resonate with the word <em>retirement<\/em>. It feels too final, too disconnected from the energy and curiosity they still have. What we\u2019re seeing instead is a rise in <em>second acts<\/em>, <em>portfolio careers<\/em>, and <em>purpose-led work<\/em> that begins, not ends, in one\u2019s 60s and 70s. Check out the inspiring and thought-provoking diagram from the WEF report below. The report highlights that people over 50 are starting businesses at higher rates than any other age group. And by the way, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brainzmagazine.com\/post\/senior-preneurs-why-50-entrepreneurs-are-stars-with-5-points\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">entrepreneurs in their 50s are almost twice as likely to start an extremely successful company as 30-year-olds.<\/a> Studies further show that mixed-age teams bring richer problem-solving and stronger decision-making. <strong>Longevity isn\u2019t a liability\u2014it\u2019s a competitive advantage. But only if we prepare for it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ember10493\">THRIVE: The 4 C\u2019s for Future-Proofing Careers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember10494\">So, what does it take to thrive in this new era of extended working life? <strong>4C\u2019s<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember10495\"><strong>Curiosity<\/strong>\u2014actively exploring and learning new skills and technologies. <strong>Clarity<\/strong>\u2014knowing our values and how we want to use them to impact and influence. <strong>Community<\/strong>\u2014surrounding ourselves with people who reflect our ambition and energy. <strong>Courage<\/strong>\u2014to challenge limiting beliefs (our own and others) about what\u2019s possible at any age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember10496\">Let\u2019s not forget employers.<strong> <\/strong>A 5th <strong>&#8220;C&#8221; \u2014 Companies<\/strong> that invest in age-inclusive policies, intergenerational collaboration, and well-being for older workers will retain talent and make the best of it.
